I ‘m participating in my first One Room Challenge – a biannual event where creatives share their process for transforming a room in 8 weeks. I’ve followed the room transformations in the past, and have always been blown away by the talent and community showcased. So, I’m giving it a go and participating this round!
I’m going to be giving the studio bathroom a glow-up! As you can see in the before pictures below, it’s a little basic right now. The vanity and vessel sink are too high to use comfortably. DESIGN TIP- generally you want to a slightly lower cabinet height when using a vessel sink. The vessel sink itself will add a few inches unlike an undermounted sink and you want the cabinet height plus the vessel sink height to be at a comfortable height. Also there is a weird build out above the sink . I think a previous owner may have built this out to try to fit a recessed medicine cabinet and work around the wall stud locations, but it just looks strange.
So, I’m hoping to fix a few of these smaller issues while making the room much more aesthetically pleasing! I am leaving the shower as is for now as it’s tiled in a simple white tile that co-ordinates with new features, and I think the budget would be better spent elsewhere.

As much as I love marble, there will shockingly be no marble in this room! I’m excited to experiment with some different material choices for this room. I LOVE a marble sink but the studio has this great concrete ceiling in the main living area, so I wanted to bring in some concrete to the bathroom. The blush concrete sink and the black and blush tiles were really the starting point for this bathroom refresh. I’m going for an eclectic feel with some Moorish influences.

I’m excited to get going on this space! I am a little nervous about getting it all complete as some of the materials I ordered are delayed. I’m really hoping I don’t have to switch things out or complete the bathroom much later than the eight weeks. Stop by next week to see the progress and check out some of the other room transformations at www.oneroomchallenge.com/orc-blog
